Q. Educational background?
A. FORE School of Management, New Delhi & EDP from Harvard University.
Q. When you joined JCBL in 1996, was that your first job?
A. I had worked with a couple of other Group companies, but JCBL was my first full-time executive responsibility.
Q. How did you find your aptitude towards the business?
A. My stint with a couple of companies before joining JCBL made me realise my spirit of entrepreneurship.
Q. Were you groomed for it?
A. The management programme really helped me to develop my competency as a manager. My father introduced me to Mr. D.K. Chakravarty, who equipped me with the necessary skills, while my entrepreneurial proficiency was shaped by the guidance of my respected father.
Q. What can you teach us about people management?
A. One commands respect only by leading from the front and setting an example by achieving extraordinary goals.
Q. What is the most prominent trend in your industry today?
A. Customisation; product development per the customer’s desire without compromising on corporate design policy, including safety standards.
Q. Your best day at office?
A. Way back in 1999 when the new JCBL brand entity was conceived.
Q. Your leadership style?
A. I believe in binding together and empowering the team for it to work cohesively.
Q. If not in this career... ?
A. Teaching management & entrepreneurship to young professionals.
Q. What do you enjoy in your free time?
A. I am an avid reader, and prefer suspense, management, and business books. I also enjoy watching movies, especially thrillers like A Wednesday.
Q. You have a fascination for car restoration. Which was your favourite project?
A. Restoring Mustang 1967 V8.
Q. The car you drive presently?
A. I have a passion for SUVs, and am driving a Land Cruiser, my favourite.
Q. The one technological invention you cannot live without?
Q. Your favourite JCBL product?
A. The first integrated luxury coach produced by JCBL – Wave 2000. It was JCBL’s first big effort in building its own brand and it has taken us a long way.
Q. The best advice you got was... ?
A. Delegate and monitor; by my father on my first day.
Q. When are you the happiest?
A. Working on a challenging project.
Q. Your greatest extravagance?
A. I take a holiday every year and visit a quiet place away from the tourists.
Q. One lesson for your kids?
A. I want them to be humble, grounded and strong to survive challenges.
